According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds healthcare providers across the country rely on critical blood supplies to help save lives. Nearly 29,000 units of red blood cells, 5,000 units of platelets and 6,500 units of plasma are needed daily. Blood donations are used to meet the needs of car accident victims, a sickle cell patient in crisis, a person in the ICU, or patients with leukemia and other cancers.

NAACP President Roger S. Terry Sr. said that “although we are certainly not out of the woods yet, the COVID-19 crisis is an important signal to all of us about how precious a life is” and to support Local blood collections are an example of how we can give back to the community to replenish vital blood reserves.
