A suspected fire destroyed a vacant house in Oliver, B.C. Saturday.

The fire broke out immediately after 12:00 in an industrial area on the corner of Sawmill Road and Co-op Avenue.

“He was fully involved when we arrived at the scene and was almost exclusively defensive,” said Rob Graham, a spokesman for the Oliver Fire Department.

“The walls were starting to fall on him and he was really insecure.”

Fire crews were on the scene for about two hours, and then a crew was left behind to monitor the fire a few hours later.

“It was spreading in some bushes and grassy areas, but we managed to keep the property on fire,” Graham said.

The house has been vacant for about five years, but according to firefighters, it was recently used by people facing homelessness.

In the last two months, two more fires have broken out at the property.

“One was an outbuilding that was a shed or garage on the property that was fully involved about a month ago,” Graham added.

“Then I had a fire in the tree next to the house that burned down on Saturday.”

No one was injured in the blaze. The fire is considered suspicious and is currently being investigated, the cause of the fire being unknown at this time.
