WEDNESDAY, APRIL 20, 2022 (HealthDay News) – If your child is a foodie and you feel the need to give him or her food supplements, you are not alone.

In a new survey of more than 1,200 parents in the U.S. with at least one child between the ages of 1 and 10, more than half said they were struggling to get their child to eat a well-balanced diet and half were said they give him regular food supplements.

About a third of parents said their child was picky about food, and a third said their children did not eat enough fruits and vegetables. In addition, 13% were concerned that their children were not getting enough vitamins and minerals; and 9% said their child’s diet needed more fiber.

Half of parents say it is more expensive to give their child a healthy diet, according to the new C.S. Mott Children’s National Poll on Children’s Health at the University of Michigan.

“A balanced diet helps children get the nutrients they need for healthy growth and development,” said Sarah Clark, co-director of the survey. “An unhealthy diet, on the other hand, can negatively affect short- and long-term health outcomes, as well as school performance.”
