Top 10 Reasons to Hate Android – An Android Fanboy

Android is without a doubt the most popular operating system due to its variety, flexibility and ease of use. However, there are certain departments in which it seems to lag behind its iOS rival. Here are 10 reasons why I hate Android, despite being a fanboy. The Android operating system has come a long way in years, but there are things that still need to be paid attention to in order to perfect it.

Android has come a long way since its inception. From a very immature operating system released as Android Gingerbread (2.2.3) to Android 12. Android 12 is the latest publicly available Android operating system. I’ve been using Android since 2011 and I’ve personally seen it grow to the exceptional operating system it has become today.

Unfortunately, when I think about it, there are quite a few things I hate about Android! Today, I thought about making it public to see if the thoughts I have are among every Android user or are too harsh with it.

Top 10 Reasons to Hate Android

1. Delayed / Slow / No updates

Android is an open source project that allows companies to create their own version of Android. A lot of third-party companies use Android to build an operating system that they think would provide the best user experience for their customers. A few popular Android skins would be MIUI from Xaiomi, Touch wiz and now One UI from Samsung, EMUI from Honor / Huawei, Oxygen OS from OnePlus and many more from other companies. These companies need to change their operating system after each upgrade to suit their skin. This causes a lot of problems and delays the release date of the new Android version for their devices.

Lots of flagship smartphones from Samsung, OnePlus receive updates to a newer version of Android in almost 6/7 months. While mid-range smartphones take over a year to get the newer version. Also, a lot of smartphones never see the sight of new updates for more than a year. This seems very wrong compared to over 4 years of updates provided by Apple. I am blessed to be able to use the latest smartphone all the time. Otherwise, it would really make me hate Android.

2. Lack of features

Being a reviewer, I used a lot of smartphones with different Android skins. Personally, I was a fan of the Android stock offered on the Nexus and Pixel line. This is mainly because it has the best optimization when it comes to Android devices. It’s also a closer look at where Google wants to take Android in the future. Although I always feel that stock Android is incomplete due to the multitude of features I’m used to on other skins.

This is mainly because they have many more features that are essential in everyday life. Simple functions, such as a screen recorder or an option to take long screenshots, etc., are not available on Android Stock, which is a good enough reason for a regular Joe to hate Android. Overall, although stock Android is one of the best Android experiences you can get, it still has a long way to go before you name it perfect.

3. Weak hardware / software integration

As I mentioned in the first point, there are different OEMs that make their own version of Android along with their own hardware.

One of the most frustrating things about Android is how weak hardware and software integration can be. I’ve had so many issues with Android phones that it just doesn’t work properly due to hardware or software issues. For example, I recently had a problem with my phone’s fingerprint scanner no longer working randomly. This seems to be a well-known problem with many phones, but there is no easy solution. Either you have to root your phone and install a custom ROM, or you just have to live with it.

For example, if you see Poco F1, it has an MIUI-based operating system that is based on Android. Samsung S9 is based on TouchWiz, which is again based on Android. Unlike Apple, the hardware and software are not controlled by Google or the Manufacturer. This creates different dependencies due to which you can’t get a full package on Android. You would definitely hate Android if you had a heavy skin operating system, such as Color OS, Funtouch OS, etc.

For example, the stories on Instagram on Android are quite focused. This is due to a multitude
